CHARTED Fund 2: Community Activities, 15 November 2026 deadline
CHARTED pays UK research software and data professionals up to £12.5k for community events, training and hackathons. Next deadline 15 November 2026.
CHARTED Fund 2: Community Activities pays for events and activities for digital research technical professionals in the UK. The fund has £150,000 to spend over the life of the CHARTED project. The next application deadline is 15 November 2026. After that, deadlines come every second month and new submissions are reviewed about every two months.
The terms changed in September 2026. A single activity can now get up to £12,500, and event series are also considered. Funding covers 80% of full economic cost, so applicants should get approval from their home institution for the rest. UK non profits can ask the CHARTED team about an exception to the 80% rule. Room hire, catering and staff time can be paid. Equipment purchases cannot.
Examples of what the fund supports include local networks, workshops, career and knowledge exchange events, skills training that is hard to find elsewhere, hackathons on tools relevant to CHARTED, online community events and mentoring schemes. The fund can also help bring collaborators from outside the UK to the UK.
UK based researchers and digital research technical professionals in research software, research data or research computing can apply. They can work at UK universities or UK non profits. Freelance trainers, educators and community managers in this sector are eligible too.
Applications go through the Good Grants platform. Register, sign in and fill in the online form. CHARTED asks for a description of the activity, expected attendance and how results will be shared, the benefit for the community, how it fits the aims of CHARTED, other funding you looked at, and a cost breakdown. Review is light touch, and applications are ranked by their benefit to people and their local community. Questions go to charted@drtp-skills.ac.uk.
Quick answers
Does the fund pay for staff time?
Yes. Under the terms updated in September 2026, venue hire, catering and staff time are covered at 80% of full economic cost. Equipment is not covered.
How early do I need to apply?
At least three months before the planned date of the activity.
What do funded teams have to do afterwards?
