Anthropic STEM Fellowship 2027

Anthropic pays $100,000 to $167,000 for a four month STEM Fellowship for PhD scientists and engineers. Apply by 28 October 2026.

The Anthropic STEM Fellowship brings researchers and experts from science and engineering into Anthropic for four months. Fellows work in small pods with others from related fields. Each pod meets weekly with Anthropic researchers. Pay is $100,000 to $167,000 USD for the four months, which Anthropic describes as equal to $300,000 to $500,000 USD a year, plus other benefits.

Each fellow takes on one open problem at the frontier of their field, scoped with the research team. The work is to find where Claude falls short of expert judgment, and to build datasets, simulations and evaluations that test whether models can plan experiments, interpret data and reason about mechanisms. Fellows get access to frontier Claude models and internal evaluation tooling.

You can apply if you hold a PhD in a STEM field and have several years of experience, for example as a postdoc or faculty member. You need hands on experience using Claude and Claude Code in your daily work. You must already be authorized to work in the United States for the whole program.

Apply on the Greenhouse posting by 28 October 2026. Later stages usually include a take home exercise and conversations with the research team about your interests and possible projects. Anthropic plans to make offers by 20 November 2026.

The program runs full time from 12 January to 8 May 2027, and some fellowships may be extended. The default location is San Francisco, and remote work inside the United States is considered in some cases. Every fellow attends a one week orientation in San Francisco. Fellows are engaged through an employer of record on a fixed term contract.
