Mozilla Foundation Fellowship 2027: up to $125,000 for technologists

Mozilla Foundation offers 10 fellowships of up to $125,000 for 12 months of technical work in the public interest. Letters of intent are due December 17, 2026.

The Mozilla Foundation Fellowship 2027 to 2028 will fund 10 Fellows for 12 months, starting on June 1, 2027. There are two tracks. Embedded Fellows work with a host organization and receive $100,000 in total, as a $75,000 stipend and a $25,000 project budget. Independent Fellows receive $125,000 in total, as a $100,000 stipend and a $25,000 project budget.

The Embedded track is for mid career people and the Independent track is for senior people. Only individuals can apply. Fellows must be able to receive money from a U.S. 501(c)(3) charity, and the work needs a charitable purpose. Projects should be mainly technical, and a project that is still only an idea is not a fit, except in the Creative Advocacy area.

The focus areas this year include neurotech, biotech and physical AI, hard infrastructure such as compute, energy and quantum, business models for a post agentic web, shared security and audit infrastructure for small organizations, and sovereign AI and public infrastructure. There is also one Creative Advocacy spot and a Wildcard option.

The 2027 host organizations for Embedded Fellows are BASAibu in Indonesia, Fundación Kamanau in Chile, LAS Foundation in Germany, Quantum Village in the United States and Slum and Rural Health Initiative in Nigeria. Embedded Fellows must live in one of these countries or be able to work remotely across time zones.

The first step is a Letter of Intent, which is the main review stage. The portal opened on October 20, 2026 and closes on December 17, 2026 at 11:59 PM Pacific time. Shortlisted applicants are invited on February 16, 2027 to send a full application by March 12, 2027, and finalists hear back on April 30, 2027.
