Processing Foundation Fellowship 2027
Eight month paid fellowship with a $10,000 stipend to build open source creative coding tools on p5.js and Processing. US only. Nominations close 1 November 2026.
The Processing Foundation Fellowship 2027 pays fellows a $10,000 stipend across an eight month programme with mentorship and cohort check ins. The 2027 programme is about building open source tools and resources for the arts, with community participation built into the work.
Every project must build on one of the Foundation's open source projects: p5.js, the p5.js Editor, Processing 4.x, the Processing Development Environment, Processing 5.0 Rust R&D or the experimental Python package.
There are three tracks, and all nominees must be based in the US. Collective Intelligence is a remote track for people who care about education and have experience in software development, machine learning or AI. Gaming the System is a hybrid track in Los Angeles for game makers, creative coders and educators. DIY Computing is a hybrid track in New York City for early career artists with hardware prototyping experience; current degree students and tenured faculty are not eligible for it.
Applying has four steps: a nomination form, an invited proposal, a finalist interview and the start of the fellowship. Self nomination is allowed. The Foundation team and outside reviewers judge proposals on project strength, fit with the Foundation's mission and likely impact on the creative coding community.
Nominations are open from 7 October to 1 November 2026 at 11:59 PM PST. Invited proposals are due on 23 November 2026. The fellowship runs from 25 January to 26 September 2027, and final presentations and documentation are due on 2 October 2027.
