OpenSats General Grant: Q4 2026 application window

OpenSats General Grants fund open source Bitcoin and nostr work for 3 to 12 months, paid in bitcoin. The Q4 window is open in October and November 2026.

The OpenSats General Grant funds developers and educators who work on free and open source projects for Bitcoin, nostr and related software. The money comes from donations to the OpenSats General Fund, and the board gives out grants in waves. On 7 October 2026 OpenSats announced its latest wave of four new grants and one renewal for Bitcoin Core work.

Applications are open for the first two months of each quarter and closed in March, June, September and December. That means the window runs through October and November 2026. OpenSats aims to review each application in under 90 days.

A general grant lasts at least 3 months and at most 12 months. Budgets are proposed in USD and paid in bitcoin. OpenSats does not set a fixed amount. It suggests that applicants think about cost of living, the value of their time and taxes when they set a budget.

All work must be published under a free and open source license and built in the open, with frequent public commits. Grantees send a progress report every 90 days. Applicants from anywhere in the world can apply, and OpenSats says it is nym friendly.

To apply, fill in the form on the OpenSats site. You need at least two written reference letters from people who know your work, and review does not start until both arrive. You also need a video about your project that is exactly 2 minutes long, with a human voice.

OpenSats says it looks for projects that are good for Bitcoin, free and open source, and shared openly with the community. It gives extra weight to proof of work in Bitcoin or nostr and to real progress on the project already.
