OpenSats runs RED Token Reimbursement, a grant that pays back LLM token costs and closely related compute costs. It is for researchers who are red teaming Bitcoin and related free and open source software. OpenSats announced the program on 6 August 2026 under the name Code RED, after a COLDCARD vulnerability was found being exploited.
The grant is an expense reimbursement tied to concrete security work. It is not salary support, maintenance funding or a project budget. OpenSats says past token costs can also be paid back. The page does not name a maximum amount.
OpenSats says it must be selective. Applicants are expected to show a trail of trust or prior work in Bitcoin security or a closely related field.
The application is short. Describe the research context, the total spent up to the date of the application and the expected token burn. Do not send vulnerability details, exploit code or reproduction steps through the form. Report unfixed bugs to the affected project through its own security contact.
The apply page lists the program as always open, and OpenSats says it is fast tracking red team applications. Funding does not give permission to test any system. Researchers must only test code, hardware and infrastructure they are legally allowed to study.
