Ontario Creates Screen Marketing and Discoverability Program 2026/27

Ontario Creates pays up to CAD 50,000 toward marketing and launch work for Ontario games it already funded in production. Applications are taken continuously until 16 December 2026.

The Ontario Creates Screen Marketing and Discoverability Program (SMD Program) helps screen projects that Ontario Creates funded in production reach more players and earn more money. It replaces the earlier IDM Fund Discoverability and Commercialization Program. The program also has a stream for film and series, but this entry covers the interactive stream for video games and XR.

For interactive projects you can request between CAD 15,000 and CAD 50,000. Ontario Creates pays up to 50% of eligible expenses as a non repayable contribution. At least 10% of the total budget must be a cash contribution, and administration costs are capped at 15%.

Only companies whose project received Production funding from the Ontario Creates IDM Fund or IP Fund can apply. Each project can get one SMD contribution. Projects that already got support from the old Discoverability and Commercialization Program cannot apply again.

First send an Applicant Inquiry from your Production project page in the Online Application Portal and wait for approval from your Program Consultant. Then submit the application in the portal. Intake is continuous and closes on 16 December 2026 at 5:00 pm ET. Decisions come within eight weeks, and Ontario Creates suggests applying at least sixteen weeks before you need the money.

Ontario Creates looks for activities that will clearly raise awareness and revenue in Canada or abroad, a clear plan and budget, and a team with relevant experience. You must start spending within 60 days of approval and finish within one year.

Quick answers

Can I apply after my game is already out?

Yes. Interactive projects can apply from 6 months before until 16 months after public launch. Early access, soft launch and beta count as a public launch, but a demo does not.

What kind of costs are covered?

Marketing materials, advertising, PR, influencer and streamer campaigns, launch events, community management, live operations, new DLC and ports to more platforms after launch. Costs from before you apply and general company running costs are not covered.

How are applications judged?

Staff review them on a first come, first served basis. They score track record (15%), feasibility and risks (25%), impact of the activities (30%) and economic benefit (30%).
