Internet Society Fellowship Program 2027
Internet Society fellows get a mentor, event travel and up to $5,000 for a project. Finish training by November 22; apply by December 18, 2026.
The Internet Society Fellowship Program 2027 is a 10 month program that mixes training, mentorship, a practical project and a trip to an Internet community event. Each fellow gets a dedicated mentor, travel support to a global or regional event such as IGF, AfPIF or the NDSS Symposium, and a project stipend of up to USD $5,000 once the project budget is approved.
There are three tracks. Internet Policy and Mobilization has sub tracks on Internet policy and community mobilization. Internet Connectivity covers peering and community centered connectivity. Internet Safety and Security covers systems security and online trust and safety. Fellows choose one track and one sub track.
The path to the fellowship starts with a self paced Pre-Fellowship Training. Enrollment is open from September 23 to November 22, 2026, and all required modules must be finished by November 22. During this training, people build a project plan that fits the Internet Society mission. When the training is complete, the participant gets the application link by email within 24 hours.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and close on December 18, 2026. Selection runs from December 21, 2026 to January 29, 2027, and fellows hear back on February 19, 2027. The program starts on February 22, 2027, projects run from June 1 to November 30, 2027, and final projects are due on December 3, 2027.
Applicants need a high level of English, reliable Internet access, a passport valid for at least six months beyond the planned travel, and time for at least four hours a week. People in a 2026 Internet Society fellowship cannot apply. The organizer looks for people who are rooted in their local community, focus on real projects rather than purely academic work, and want to stay involved after the fellowship ends.
