
Hertz Fellowship 2027
The Hertz Fellowship gives US PhD students in science, maths and engineering up to five years of funding worth up to $250,000. Apply by 30 October 2026.
The Hertz Fellowship 2027 funds PhD students in applied science, mathematics and engineering. It gives up to five years of funding, valued at up to $250,000, as a stipend and full tuition equivalent. Fellows also join a lifelong mentoring community.
Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. They must be first or second year PhD students in fall 2027, in a full time, in person PhD at a US institution. Other professional degrees are not funded, but the PhD part of an MD/PhD is.
The application is open now and closes on 30 October 2026. References are due in November 2026. You create an account on the Hertz application portal to start.
First round interviews take place on Zoom. Finalists have in person interviews. Finalists are named in February 2027 and awards are announced in May 2027.
