FLOSS/fund grants for free and open source projects
FLOSS/fund from Zerodha gives open source projects anywhere up to $100,000 a year. Applications are open all year and reviewed every quarter.
FLOSS/fund is a grant fund started in 2024 by Zerodha, an Indian financial technology company. It gives up to $1 million a year to free and open source projects around the world.
A project can apply for up to $100,000 in one year. The fund accepts requests of at least $10,000, and in steps of $25,000 above that.
Individuals, projects, groups, communities and organisations can apply. An application can cover one project or an entity that runs many projects. The applicant needs a bank account and the tax documents needed to receive funds. For now the fund supports existing, widely used projects. Very new projects or projects with little usage are not considered.
To apply, write a funding.json manifest, publish it on your website or in your repository, and submit its URL to the FLOSS/fund directory. The application is then public on the directory. An internal committee reviews applications at the end of every quarter and sends its decision by email. Paperwork after acceptance can take up to four weeks.
The committee looks at value, impact, criticality and innovation. The fund paid its first 2026 tranche in April to LibreOffice and Warpgate, and it updated payouts from the 2025 tranches in September 2026.
