Ruby Association Grant 2026

The Ruby Association Grant 2026 funds development projects for Ruby implementations, libraries and frameworks. Projects that improve existing software are welcome. Each selected proposal gets JPY750,000, and the grant committee will pick up to five projects.

The association lists six themes. They are Ruby implementation work such as speed and memory use, scientific libraries, development tools such as debuggers and profilers, web libraries and frameworks, tools for enterprise systems, and better concurrency features. It does not fund Ruby applications built for one specific purpose.

Any individual or organization can apply, and one applicant can send more than one proposal. Grantees keep the rights to their work, but the results must use one or more OSI approved licenses. Each project gets a mentor from the Ruby Association.

To apply, send an email in English to grant(at)ruby.or.jp. Include the applicant name, a contact person and email, a short biography, the project title, project details, deliverables and a schedule.

Proposals are due October 5, 2026 (JST). Results come on October 23, 2026. The intermediate report is due January 18, 2027 and the final report on March 23, 2027. Payment is made after the mentor approves the final report.

The committee judges impact on the productivity and performance of Ruby, originality, and feasibility. Grantees are also expected to talk and write about their project.
