The Sentient Foundation Open Source AGI Grant Programme is taking applications on a rolling basis. The foundation has committed $42 million to grants and investments for developers, researchers and companies building AI in the open. There is no cohort and no deadline. A named technical panel reviews applications.
The grant track is for open source maintainers, researchers, independent developers and public goods work. The foundation says there is no equity, no lockup, and no claim on the work. The investment track is for companies that want to scale, on founder friendly terms. Both tracks share one application process. Per award amounts are not stated on the program page.
Projects do not have to open every part of the stack. Applicants must show that at least one essential element is openly available and adds to the project's value. Recipients may also receive compute credits, engineering help, distribution support and access to the Sentient builder community.
The program looks for work that people can run and inspect, that stays available to the builder, that can run on common hardware, that is private by default, and that gives people a capability rather than extracting data from them.
