Gamecity Hamburg Prototype Funding, second round 2026

Grants of up to 80,000 euros for game prototypes from studios in Hamburg or moving there. A total of 180,000 euros is available. Applications close September 24, 2026.

Gamecity Hamburg Prototype Funding has opened its second funding round of 2026. The Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft offers grants of up to 80,000 euros per project for the development of digital game prototypes. The grants do not have to be repaid. The total budget for this round is up to 180,000 euros, and a grant can cover up to 80 percent of eligible costs.

The program is for individual developers, development teams and small and medium sized companies with fewer than 250 employees and less than 50 million euros in annual turnover. Applicants must already be based in Hamburg, or prove that they will move their headquarters to Hamburg or open a branch there when they receive the funding. Prior experience in game development is required.

Projects can be at concept stage or have a pitch deck or a playable demo. Projects where prototype development has already started are not eligible. The application asks for a competition analysis, a market exploitation strategy, a diversity checklist and information on whether generative AI is used.

A consultation with Gamecity Hamburg is mandatory before the submission deadline. Applicants write to funding@gamecity-hamburg.de with a short project outline, the amount they seek and their questions. The online application form must be complete by September 24, 2026 at 11:59 pm.

The awarding committee looks at young talent promotion, the team, market potential and the effect on the Hamburg location. It decides on pitch invitations on November 3, 2026. Selected teams present their projects in ten minute pitches on November 17, 2026.
