Accelerator Opens 26 Oct

Kajaani Game Catalyst 2027

Kajaani Game Catalyst is a free, mostly online growth program for game developers, teams and young studios. Applications for 2027 run from 26 October to 22 November 2026.

Kajaani Game Catalyst is a free growth program for game developers, run by GameCity Kajaani in Finland. It has three stages: GameLAB builds the team, the Incubator builds the studio, and the Accelerator builds the business. Most of the program runs online, with a few bootcamps and Game Entrepreneurship Nights in Kajaani each year.

GameLAB is for individual developers and early teams. It gives six months to meet other developers, test game concepts and form a team. The Incubator lasts up to 12 months for teams with a game project, in 7 week cycles. Each cycle ends with a presentation of the game and feedback from a jury. The Accelerator is for existing game companies and gives each one a Designated Coach until the end of 2027.

GameLAB applicants need a core skill such as design, art, code, audio, production or business development, and time to commit at least half time. Incubator teams need a game project or a plan for their next one. Accelerator applicants need an existing company in the game industry. Companies founded during the program and companies in the Accelerator must be registered in Kainuu.

Applications for all three stages run from 26 October to 22 November 2026. Until the form opens, the page offers a waiting list. Selected teams will be announced by 18 December 2026, and the first kick off bootcamp is on 9 and 10 January 2027. GameLAB and the Incubator also have a second intake in June 2027.

The organizers say they evaluate applications against the requirements listed for each stage. If you are not sure which stage fits, they ask you to apply anyway and they will help you find the right one.

Quick answers

Does the program give money to my game or studio?

No. Participation is free, but the program does not fund games or studios directly. In the Accelerator stage, coaches help companies build a financing strategy and find funding such as Business Finland funding.

Can I apply without a team?

Yes. You can apply to GameLAB alone or with a friend, and the program helps you find a team. The most common team size is 4 to 5 people.

How much time does it take?

GameLAB needs at least half time. The first 4 weeks are intensive, and after that the scheduled activities get lighter.
