Fellowship Open

University of Chicago AI in the Workplace Fellowship, Spring 2027

University of Chicago fellowship with up to $25,000 for faculty and PhD students studying how AI changes work. Apply by October 30, 2026.

The AI in the Workplace Fellowship is run by the Kenneth C. Griffin Applied Economics Incubator at the University of Chicago. It supports scholars who study how fast changing AI technologies are changing work, workers, firms, organizations and labor markets. The fellowship runs during Spring Quarter 2027.

Fellows may receive up to $25,000 in research support. Travel and accommodation are provided. During the fellowship they take part in the life of the Incubator, with seminars, workshops, research discussions and conferences where they can share work in progress and find collaborators.

Faculty members and PhD students can apply. The Incubator lists example topics: employment and labor demand, skills and workforce development, wages and inequality, productivity and technology adoption, firms and how they organize work, and the development and spread of AI. These are examples only, and new data, new methods and work across disciplines are welcome.

To apply, fill in the online form with a research statement or proposal of one to two pages and a current CV. The deadline is October 30, 2026, and decisions are announced on November 20, 2026.

Applications are judged on how important and original the research is, how closely it fits the AI in the Workplace initiative, how strong and feasible the plan is, how much the fellowship would move the work forward, and what the applicant would add to the Incubator community.
