Hackathon Open

Mergetober 2026 with Cognee

Mergetober pays a $5,000 prize pool for open source integrations to Cognee. Open a pull request by 31 October 2026.

Mergetober is an online open source month from WeMakeDevs with Cognee. It runs from 1 to 31 October 2026. The prize pool is $5,000. The top contributor, the person with the most merged contributions, receives $2,000 in cash or an iPhone or MacBook of that value. Twenty more people, picked at random from everyone with a merged pull request, receive $100 each. It is free, and it is open to anyone, subject to local laws and prize shipping limits.

The work is to build or improve a Cognee integration. Cognee is an open source memory layer for AI agents. You can take an existing GitHub issue labelled INTEGRATIONS and hackathon, or open a new integration issue, up to five new issues. Each pull request must be opened in October. With the pull request, publish a short blog post that explains how the integration works in practice.

You can start now. The WeMakeDevs page says the form for submitting pull request and blog links is opening soon, and that every pull request opened in October still counts. Do not pressure maintainers to merge. If a pull request is not merged by 31 October, it stays eligible as long as it was opened in October. Prizes are paid or shipped after results are announced. Winners may need to share payment or shipping details, and they handle any local taxes or customs fees.

Quick answers

What if a pull request is not merged by 31 October?

You are still eligible if you opened the pull request in October. Maintainers review it in their own time.

Is a blog post required?

Yes. Alongside each pull request, publish a short post that explains how the integration works, and keep the link for the submission form.

Can a team enter?

No. Each submission belongs to one person, and prizes go to the GitHub account that authored the pull request.
