The Simons Institute offers a research fellowship on diffusion generative modeling for Fall 2027. Apply by 1 December 2026.
The Simons Institute Research Fellowship for Fall 2027 is a postdoctoral level place in the research program on Diffusion Generative Modeling. The Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing is at Calvin Lab on the UC Berkeley campus. A program is a semester of collaborative work on one topic, usually with more than 50 long term participants. Research Fellows are key participants. A program typically has seven Research Fellows.
The fellowship is for exceptional young scientists. At the start of the 2027 to 2028 academic year, applicants should be within at most five years after the PhD. People who already hold junior faculty or postdoctoral posts may apply, including people who expect a postdoc elsewhere and want to spend one semester at the Institute, if that institution agrees. Graduate students are considered only if the expected PhD completion date is before the program starts.
Salaries and benefits are competitive. The page does not state a figure. Assistance with visas and housing will be provided. The Institute particularly encourages applications from women and members of underrepresented minority groups.
Apply with one PDF that holds a short cover letter, a curriculum vitae with a full publication list, and a research statement. Also submit the names and email addresses of three recommenders on the application form. Each recommender gets an automatic request for a letter. It is the applicant's job to make sure the letters arrive. The application period opened on 1 October 2026. Applications are due on 1 December 2026. The form is the Simons Institute Program Fellowship Application page. Questions go to simonsvisitorservices@berkeley.edu.
