OpenStreetMap Community Microgrants 2026
OpenStreetMap offers grants of up to €500 for local community activities. Apply by 25 October 2026.
OpenStreetMap Community Microgrants 2026 is a small grant round from the Local Chapters and Communities Working Group. The group has set aside €5000 in total. Each grant is up to €500. The blog asks groups to request only what the activity costs, so more communities can be supported.
The grants are for groups, not individuals. That includes local OpenStreetMap communities, Local Chapters, YouthMappers chapters, and similar groups. The wiki also welcomes informal mapping groups and community organisations doing OSM related work. Applicants should have a record of OSM activity that fits the size of the plan. Newer communities can apply if they can show relevant activity. The blog suggests talking with your community first so the same group does not send several applications.
The money is for small, concrete activities. Examples on the blog are a mapathon, a one day field mapping project, a validation sprint, a workshop with a local school or university group, and documentation translation. Conference travel, salaries, paid mapping, and recurring costs are less likely to be funded.
To apply, open the Microgrants wiki page, type a short project name under "Start an application", and fill in the page, including the budget. If you cannot edit the wiki, email the completed application to local@osmfoundation.org before the deadline and the team will post it. Questions can go to that address or to the Discourse thread.
Applications are open from 5 October to 25 October 2026. The wiki sets the close at 23:59 UTC on 25 October. Results are announced in the first week of November. Funded activities can run from mid November 2026 to March 2027.
