AIxBio Research Fellowship Winter 2027 in Cambridge

The AIxBio Research Fellowship pays a £10,000 stipend for 10 weeks in Cambridge on AI and biosecurity work. Apply by 19 October 2026.

The AIxBio Research Fellowship is a 10 week, fully funded programme in Cambridge, UK, for people who work on problems where advanced AI and biosecurity meet. ERA runs it with the Cambridge Biosecurity Hub. Applications for the Winter 2027 cohort close on 19 October 2026.

Fellows receive a £10,000 stipend for the ten weeks. Travel and visa costs are covered. Fellows also get meals during working hours, office space with the cohort, a project funding pot and compute where it helps the work. Each fellow works with an expert mentor and a dedicated ERA research manager.

The cohort runs full time and in person from 18 January to 26 March 2027. ERA expects to accept about 15 fellows across three tracks. The Research track turns an open biosecurity question into a project. The Placement track embeds a fellow in a biosecurity team. The Founding track tests whether a neglected gap needs a new organisation.

Applicants must be 18 or older. There are no other formal eligibility rules, and people from any country can apply. ERA welcomes graduate students, early career and experienced researchers, engineers and founders. People in AI and machine learning who can build, evaluate or test AI systems with biological capabilities are one of the profiles the page names.

The process starts with a short written form about your background and the problems you want to work on. Shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview, and some tracks add short work tests. ERA says it cares more about the quality of your reasoning than about polished writing.
