Grant Rolling

Coefficient Giving capacity building grants for transformative AI risks

Coefficient Giving funds training, events, groups and media that help people work on risks from advanced AI. Applications are open on a rolling basis.

Coefficient Giving, formerly Open Philanthropy, runs a rolling grant program for work that builds capacity to address risks from transformative AI. The aim is to help new people enter the field, support those already in it, and add to public discussion of what advanced AI could mean.

The funder lists several kinds of work it supports. Training and mentorship programs include fellowships, internships, residencies, courses and bootcamps. Events can be conferences, workshops, retreats or hackathons. Groups are regular meetups, online or in person, built around a place or a profession. Media covers books, newsletters, explainers, videos and podcasts. Other ideas such as discussion platforms, career advising and co working spaces are welcome too.

Both organizations and individuals can apply, for full time or part time projects. Grants range from small grants to individuals up to multi year grants to organizations. Useful fields include technical alignment research, model evaluation and forecasting, AI governance, information security and the economics of AI. University groups should use a separate Coefficient Giving page, and projects that fit another Coefficient Giving call, such as the AI governance call, should apply there instead.

Applications go through an online form that asks about you, your project or organization, and the activities you want funded. Coefficient Giving says the program is open until further notice and applications are assessed on a rolling basis. Founders of new capacity building organizations can also apply through Project Tailwind; both routes are reviewed by the same team.
