RAISE Doctoral Networks for AI in Science 2026
The RAISE pilot funds MSCA Doctoral Networks where PhD candidates build new AI tools for their science field. €30 million budget, deadline 24 November 2026.
RAISE Doctoral Networks for AI in Science is a pilot topic of Horizon Europe that funds doctoral training networks in the use of AI in science. It builds on the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks 2026 call and has a budget of €30,000,000. Networks and their doctoral candidates that are funded become part of RAISE, the Resource for AI Science in Europe.
The scope is limited to AI in science. Each doctoral candidate has to develop, or take a major part in developing, new AI systems, models, tools or methods for their own scientific field. These must change the way scientific information is analysed and lead to results in that field. The work should go further than computer science research on AI alone, and further than using existing AI tools for routine data processing. All doctoral candidates must receive doctoral level training in AI in science.
There is no separate form. Applicants submit to the MSCA Doctoral Networks 2026 call, which covers standard, joint doctorate and industrial doctorate networks, and declare their interest in RAISE at the proposal stage. Proposals must meet all admissibility and eligibility rules of that call and pass its thresholds.
RAISE proposals are scored with the normal MSCA criteria. A cross panel list is then made from the highest ranking reserve list proposals, asking for about three times the RAISE budget in total. Experts then judge how well each proposal fits the RAISE topic, and the final ranking combines the MSCA score with that judgement.
The call opened on 28 May 2026. The deadline is 24 November 2026.
Quick answers
How much does it pay?
€30,000,000 budget for 2026. It is a grant and takes no equity.
When is the deadline?
The deadline is 24 November 2026.
Who can apply?
Consortia of organisations applying to the MSCA Doctoral Networks 2026 call, with eligible countries as described in Annex B of the Horizon Europe General Annexes. Doctoral candidates must develop or substantially help develop new AI systems, models, tools or methods for their scientific field. It is limited to applicants in Europe.
How do I apply?
Through the official page at ec.europa.eu. The link is at the top of this page.
Is there a separate application for RAISE?
No. You submit a proposal to the MSCA Doctoral Networks 2026 call and declare there that you want to be considered for RAISE. The proposal must show that it fits the AI in science scope.
Does using existing AI tools count?
No. Using existing AI systems or general computing tools only for data processing or statistics does not qualify. Developing the AI tool, model or method must be an essential part of the research.
