EA Funds Transformative AI Fund grants
The EA Funds Transformative AI Fund gives early stage grants, typically $10k to $150k, for AI safety and governance work. Applications are always open.
The Transformative AI Fund is a grant fund run by EA Funds. It replaced the Long-Term Future Fund, which EA Funds closed when it launched the new fund on August 11, 2026. A new full time team runs it, led by Head of Fund Lowe Lundin.
Grants are typically between $10k and $150k and rarely go above $300k. The fund says its money is early stage, fast and tolerant of failure. It started with a seed grant of about $1M and is raising more.
Individuals, new organizations and existing organizations with a new project can apply. EA Funds says applicants do not need to be based in the US or the UK. It can make grants to individuals, nonprofits, academic institutions and other entities.
The main focus is reducing global catastrophic risks from advanced AI. That covers technical AI safety and AI governance, plus supporting work such as field building and forecasting. The fund also accepts a small share of projects on other effects of transformative AI, such as flourishing futures and digital sentience. For now it does not fund biosecurity or nuclear work beyond their overlap with AI.
The fund is always open to applications. Apply through the EA Funds form and choose the Transformative AI Fund. EA Funds suggests spending one to two hours on the application and keeping answers under 10,000 characters.
