The CollectionBuilder Community Developers Program pays for short, one time contracts that add something reusable to CollectionBuilder, an open source tool for digital collections. Awards are $3,500 to $5,000, paid when the work is delivered. The work runs from mid October 2026 until February 2027, and the project must be delivered by 10 February 2027.
You need to be based in the United States and allowed to work there. CollectionBuilder says "developers" includes anyone with the skills to finish the work on that short timeline. You work as an independent contractor. This is not a mentorship or a cohort. Deliverables must be published in the open: code under the MIT license and content under a Creative Commons ShareAlike license.
The call is open from 24 September 2026 to 9 October 2026. The short form asks for a project title, a description of the benefit to the CollectionBuilder community, the deliverables, a budget between $3,500 and $5,000, and the background of the people who will do the work. Selected proposals meet the CollectionBuilder team to agree a contract.
Ideas they name include reusable templates, documented add ons, a port away from Jekyll, a theming system, new documentation such as walkthroughs or accessibility guides, and tools that make it easier to create, manage, or preserve a collection.
