LASR Labs Winter 2027 AI safety research programme
LASR Labs pays a £15,000 stipend for a 13 week AI safety research programme in London from January 11 to April 9, 2027. Applications close September 20, 2026.
LASR Labs, the London AI Safety Research programme, has opened applications for its Winter 2027 cohort. The cohort runs from January 11 to April 9, 2027. The deadline is September 20, 2026 at 23:59 GMT.
Participants receive a £15,000 stipend to cover living costs in London. LASR also provides food, office space and travel. The programme runs three times a year and lasts 13 weeks. Participants work full time from the London Initiative for Safe AI.
In week 0, participants learn about and evaluate a set of technical AI safety research directions. They then write a technical AI safety paper in a small team, with supervision from an experienced researcher. LASR says its work focuses on concrete threat models and action relevant questions.
There are no fixed experience requirements. LASR looks for machine learning engineering experience and strong quantitative skills, a willingness to experiment and iterate under uncertainty, and the ability to explain results clearly. Evidence of substantial past work helps, such as research results, systems, tools or analyses, as does experience with large language models and self directed steps toward AI safety work.
Applications go through the form on the LASR Labs website. Recent cohorts have published papers at NeurIPS 2025 and won a best paper award at an ICML 2025 workshop.
