FreeCAD Grant Program 2026: Q4 round
Small grants from the FreeCAD Project Association for work on FreeCAD and its ecosystem. The last 2026 round closes on November 15, 2026, from a 40,000 EUR yearly budget.
The FreeCAD Grant Program gives small grants to developers and non programming contributors for specific individual projects that improve FreeCAD and its ecosystem. The grants are issued by the FreeCAD Project Association (FPA), which collects donations from the community. The FPA has reserved 40,000 EUR for the program in 2026, and the FreeCAD blog describes the quarterly budget as 10,000 euro.
Grants are evaluated and issued quarterly. The last round of 2026 has a submission deadline on November 15, with voting complete by December 19. Applications received after November 15 are held until the 2027 program is announced.
For 2026 the FPA prioritizes grants that focus on documentation, testing, and improving the FreeCAD release cycle. Projects that address major issues on the general roadmap are preferred, but submissions outside the roadmap are welcome too. The FPA also accepts time commitment grants, where a contributor works for a set amount of time on tasks around one effort, such as refactoring code. Ecosystem projects include FreeCAD infrastructure and hard dependencies such as the OCCT and Coin3D libraries.
Both individuals and groups can apply. A group must be an incorporated company or a set of individuals represented by a single person, and every member must qualify. Applicants must be old enough to work legally in their country and able to sign a contract with the FPA. Only one application per developer is allowed in each quarter. The FPA expects applicants to understand the scope of the proposed work and to deliver results without active mentorship.
