RISC-V Summit North America 2027 Scholarships and Travel Fund
Free passes and travel refunds for open source developers who cannot pay to attend RISC-V Summit North America 2027. Apply by 13 November 2026.
The RISC-V Summit North America 2027 Scholarships and Travel Fund help people attend the summit who could not go otherwise. The summit takes place in San Francisco from 16 to 18 February 2027. Applications are open now, and the deadline is 13 November 2026.
There are two programs. A Registration Scholarship gives a free registration pass. The Travel Fund pays back coach airfare to and from the event, a hotel for the event dates plus one night before, and transport to and from the airport. It does not cover food, visa costs, baggage fees or other local transport. Travel money is paid after the event against valid receipts.
The Registration Scholarship is for people from groups that are underrepresented or marginalized in technology and open source, and for active members of the open source and open standard community who cannot attend for financial reasons and get no money from their company. The Travel Fund is for open source developers and community members without funding, with priority for underrepresented groups and people with lower income.
RISC-V says it receives about a thousand travel requests a year. Cheaper requests are more likely to be approved, and the same person is usually not funded two years in a row. A group of reviewers decides on need and impact, and decisions are final.
Both programs use one online form. According to the form, the committee reviews applications from 16 to 20 November, recipients hear back on 23 November and must confirm by 30 November 2026.
Quick answers
Can I ask for both a free pass and travel money?
Yes. Send the Travel Fund request first and wait until it is approved before you complete the Registration Scholarship request.
Should I apply if my company could pay?
No. RISC-V asks people whose employer can fund the trip not to apply, so the money reaches those who need it.
Is anything expected from recipients?
Yes. The application form says recipients are expected to give back to the community through interviews that are recorded on video and published.
