EuroHPC Quantum Machine Learning call 2026
EuroHPC grants of €2 million to €3 million for research on quantum machine learning, with €6 million in total for two projects. Deadline 28 January 2027.
The EuroHPC Quantum Machine Learning call funds research that brings quantum computing into AI. It is a Research and Innovation Action of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking under Horizon Europe. The budget is €6,000,000, and EuroHPC expects to fund two projects of €2,000,000 to €3,000,000 each.
Projects should build and test quantum or hybrid quantum and classical machine learning methods that work with today's noisy quantum hardware and beat classical baselines on speed, accuracy, data needs or scale. Each proposal must cover several research directions from the topic text: quantum supervised learning, quantum convolutional neural networks, learning with quantum models, quantum reinforcement learning, quantum unsupervised learning and quantum AI for algorithm discovery.
The topic also asks for demonstrators on real problems, for example climate modelling, Earth observation, health, materials, finance, robotics, manufacturing or cybersecurity. Teams are expected to give feedback to standards bodies and to work with the Quantum Flagship and other EuroHPC quantum projects. Collaboration between universities, research infrastructures, industry and SMEs is strongly encouraged.
Only legal entities established in EU Member States, Horizon Europe associated countries and EuroHPC JU Participating States can take part. The topic lists the eligible countries, including Norway, Switzerland, Türkiye and the United Kingdom. Proposals are submitted through the EU Funding and Tenders Portal, with a limit of 70 pages.
The submission session opened on 2 June 2026. The single stage deadline is 28 January 2027.
Quick answers
Does the software have to be open source?
Yes. All software must be released under the European Union Public Licence (EUPL) or another OSI approved licence that is compatible with it, and projects should publish it through code.europa.eu where possible.
How mature should the work be?
Projects should start at technology readiness level 3 or 4 and reach level 5 or 6 by the end.
