Sentry gives $1,000,000 to open source maintainers in 2026

Sentry is giving $1,000,000 to open source maintainers and foundations in 2026, up from $750,000 last year. There is no application; funds go to projects Sentry depends on.

Sentry has announced that it is giving $1,000,000 to open source maintainers for 2026, up from $750,000 the year before. There is no application process. The money goes to projects and foundations that Sentry chose.

Of the total, $495,000 goes through thanks.dev to maintainers of packages that Sentry depends on. Another $100,000 goes through ecosyste.ms Funds to important packages in the Python, Django, Ruby, Rust, JavaScript and Go ecosystems.

A further $100,000 is sponsored by the Syntax team for 22 projects and maintainers, mostly $5,000 each. Examples include FFmpeg, pnpm, Jellyfin, FreeCAD, OBS, Biome, Caddy, iTerm2, XState and Three.js.

Foundations also receive money: the Python Software Foundation gets $60k, the PHP Foundation $45k, Ruby Central $40k and the Django Software Foundation $40k. Smaller amounts go to Packagist, the Open Source Initiative, the Rust Foundation, Geomys, OpenJS, NumFOCUS and Alpine Linux.

The post also marks two years of the Open Source Pledge. Sentry says its 37 member companies have paid $8,421,535 to maintainers so far. Companies can join at opensourcepledge.com.
