Horizon Europe 2027: Human/AI collaboration for the workforce of the future

Horizon Europe grants of €4 million to €6 million for new AI approaches to human and machine collaboration in factories. €30 million in total, first stage deadline 2 February 2027.

New approaches for Human/AI collaboration for the workforce of the future is a 2027 topic of Horizon Europe, the EU research and innovation program. It is a Research and Innovation Action in the Cluster 4 INDUSTRY two stage call. The total budget is €30,000,000, and the Commission expects to fund about five projects of €4,000,000 to €6,000,000 each as lump sum grants.

Projects build new AI approaches for collaboration between people and machines in advanced manufacturing. Each project must work in at least two fields from the topic text: human and AI co learning to capture expert knowledge and train workers, human and AI teamwork through new natural interaction models, and interfaces to automation that adapt to the needs of different workers, including different abilities and cultures.

The Commission asks proposals to include a gender perspective, to address bias in AI systems, and to include social sciences and humanities. Proposals should also include a business case and an exploitation strategy, and may build on earlier EU projects on extended reality. The topic is part of the Made in Europe and AI, Data and Robotics partnerships and is linked to the Apply AI Strategy.

Eligible countries are set out in Annex B of the Horizon Europe General Annexes. Proposals are submitted through the EU Funding and Tenders Portal.

The opening of this call was moved to 13 October 2026, and the portal announced on 14 October 2026 that the submission session is now available. The first stage deadline is 2 February 2027 and the second stage deadline is 2 September 2027.

Quick answers

Is this a one step or a two step application?

It is a two stage call. A short first stage proposal is due on 2 February 2027, and the first stage is evaluated blindly, so it must not name your organisations or staff. The second stage deadline is 2 September 2027.

How mature should the technology be?

Projects are expected to start at technology readiness level 4 to 5 and reach level 6 by the end of the project.
