GTR AI Safety Fund
The GTR AI Safety Fund backs people and early stage groups working to reduce catastrophic AI risk from a €50 million pool. Rolling applications.
The GTR AI Safety Fund is a programme of the Global Technology Risk Foundation, a non profit based in Berlin. It gives flexible funding and personal support to people and early stage organisations working to reduce catastrophic risks from advanced AI. The money comes from investor Jan Beckers, who committed €50 million over three to seven years.
Support is shaped around each person rather than a fixed programme. Funding can be a single grant or several years of support for starting an organisation. It can cover a move into AI safety work, research, compute, fellowships or conference and travel costs. The fund also offers technical advice, introductions, mentoring, hiring help and workspace.
Topics include loss of control, cybersecurity, CBRN risks, power concentration, and international agreements and verification. The fund is also interested in the slower effects of AI on human development and social behaviour. There is no geographic focus.
The fund looks for three things: commitment to impact, exceptional potential and high agency. Degrees, seniority and credentials are not decisive. School and university students can apply, and so can experienced professionals.
To apply, upload a short proposal, ideally one page and at most three pages, together with a CV through the portal on the fund page. Applications have been accepted on a rolling basis since 14 September 2026. The foundation may set deadlines for particular funding windows later. You can also nominate someone by email to grants@gtr-foundation.org.
