FORTIS Open Call #2 2026 for human robot interaction projects
FORTIS Open Call #2 funds European consortia with up to €250,000 per project to test and deploy human robot interaction tools. Apply by 4 November 2026.
FORTIS Open Call #2 is the second funding call of the FORTIS project, an EU funded project on human robot interaction. It funds outside teams that want to prototype, test and scale collaboration between people and robots in industrial settings.
There are two topics. Topic OC#2.1 gives €250,000 per project to at least 8 projects that integrate their systems into the FORTIS framework. It has eight technical subtopics, such as task allocation between humans and robots, digital twins, an AI Act and security watchdog, ergonomics aware sensing, XR interfaces with smart glasses and multi sensor localisation and mapping. Topic OC#2.2 gives €170,000 per project to at least 6 projects that bring FORTIS tools to new civilian sectors, for example agriculture, healthcare, airports, forestry or logistics.
The funding covers up to 100% of costs for non profit organisations and up to 70% for SMEs and other for profit organisations, including mid caps. Projects run for 10 months in three sprints from January to November 2027, with grant payments of 30%, 30% and 40%. Teams also get technical mentoring, help with regulation and deployment, and the chance to test with FORTIS partners.
You must apply as a consortium. Topic OC#2.1 needs at least 3 entities from at least 2 eligible countries. Topic OC#2.2 needs at least 2 entities and allows a single country. Every consortium needs at least one SME, and universities and research organisations can hold at most 30% of the budget. One legal entity can receive at most €200,000 from FORTIS in total. Applicants must be based in an EU Member State, a Horizon Europe associated country or an Overseas Country or Territory. Entities in the United Kingdom and Switzerland are not eligible.
