Imminent Research Grants 2026

The Imminent Research Grants fund five original research projects on language technology each year. Imminent is the research center of Translated, a translation company. It puts $100,000 into the program every year, split into five grants of $20,000 each for one year of work.

There are five topics: language economics, language data, machine learning algorithms for translation, human computer interaction, and the neuroscience of language. The call page gives examples for each one, such as how to generate good training data from plentiful low quality data, how to make learning algorithms for machine translation more efficient, and how professional translators can work together with machine translation.

The call is open to startuppers, researchers, innovators, authors, university labs, organizations and companies, and you can apply from anywhere in the world. Your project can be part of research you are already doing, or a standalone project on one of the topics.

To apply, fill out a short form on the call page. It asks for a 250 word pitch of your project, why your team is the right one to do it, and what you will produce. A committee of experts picks 20 candidates for a second round, who then send a longer project description and a two minute video. Some may be asked to a ten minute interview.

The deadline is October 15, 2026. Grantees get 50% of the money after signing the grant agreement and the other 50% after the final report. There are two milestone meetings, which can be held remotely, and grantees are asked to publish an article about their project on the Imminent website within a year of the final presentation.
